So I have a dieffenbachia plant, I’ve had it for about 4.5 years or so. It just keeps growing lol. But recently it started growing a new shoot. I wanted to repot the shoot, but it’s attached to the base of the mother plant, and it has one root of its own. Is it possible to repot it or do I have to leave it? If I can, how do I do it? Thank you!

I would recommend to wait a bit longer to let the pup grow some more roots, unless you feel it can survive alone. Once it does, I believe it would be safe to gently remove from mama and ready for a new home

Thank you! How do I take it off once it has more roots? Do I just cut it from the main plant?

I would leave it to make the pot fuller since that one is pretty bare along the bottom anyway. Also you could chop and prop the top to get it to fill out then repot the prop back into the same pot… you’d get a lush plant instead of a tall spindly etiolated one. It may enjoy being slightly closer to the window with a bit more indirect light to avoid this type of growth pattern and allow for a more compact full plant like dieffenbachia should be.

Thank you! I was actually thinking about cutting the top off and replanting it! Lol. I’ve just been so scared that it will die.
