When watering a Ruby ficus plant…do I water the soil or can I wet the leaves as well? She’s recovering…she’s been through a lot since the LA fires. She was more vibrant and wasn’t droopy before but she’s gonna recover and be better! Also do you recommend coconut oil once a week for shine or neem oil??

I don’t shine my leaves. I’ve used the commercial leaf shine products many years ago. I stopped and just keep them clean with dusting or a vinegar water solution to remove hard water deposits and fertilizer salts. I use coconut oil often. I would be concerned about it solidifying at cooler temperatures and blocking the leaf pores. It’s 70 degrees F in my house now. The coconut oil is semisolid.

Thanks for the advice!! This is my first time caring for a ficus ruby plant. From the picture, would you say she looks okay?

She looks fine. My experience with ficus is they don’t like to be moved. They drop leaves in protest to changes in their environment. Find its happy ok and leave it in that spot and it should be okay.
