Serious case of mushrooms... with spores coming out the other side? Anyone know what to make of this? They started sprouting as soon as I repotted, and initially I was pulling them out but was told from friends they're actually a good sign. If the spores are threading out all the way through could it harm my baby money plant?

Spore presence: Fungal spores naturally hide in potting soil or blow in from outside.Moisture and organic matter: Mushrooms love damp soil and decaying bits of bark or compost.Soil health: While they mean your soil is active and breaking down nutrients (which is generally fine for the plant), it often signals the soil is staying too wet

Thanks so much! As soon as they appeared I made sure to dry out the soil. I'd added some compost from our community garden which is where I suspect the spores came from.

Use gloves as mushrooms can be very toxic to humans and pets if not identifiable as a safe shroom. try not to touch or eat them. Fix the environment and Let the top layer of soil dry out between waterings to discourage more mushrooms from popping up.

The species of mushrooms that are most likely to grow in potted plants are safe to handle. You shouldn't eat them as they can cause stomach upset, but touching them is fine. They can indicate overwatering if they bloom often. If you want to prevent them, disturb/aerate the soil, water slightly less often, and increase air flow. The usual species are flowerpot parasol and the coprinoid mushroom family

Oh that's so interesting! I was wondering what the species was. I've disturbed the soil like you said, see how it goes
