How would you categorize light in this room for the shelves where my plants are? When I take readings with the light meter is says part sun part shade but I don't think direct sunlight ever hits those shelves This is a south facing window

For the left of the window shelf I’d say that’s bright indirect/medium light. For the right of the window shelf I’d lean more towards saying low light, possibly medium light. Here is a good example with this picture using a south facing window.

Have you used the light meter in the app at noon? I do so periodically through out the year even for the same windows. Why? Because the three types of sun [Morning sun (sunrise to Noon), Noon sun (Noon to 3PM) and Afternoon sun (3PM till sundown)] come through my East facing or West facing windows differently and always changing. My eastern kitchen windows get about 3 hours of morning sun. My eastern back bedroom, above the kitchen, get about 5 hours of morning sun. My dining room eastern window gets about 4 hours morning sun. My middle bed room, above dining room, gets 6 hours morning sun. My living room gets 5 hours of Afternoon sun. My bedroom above the living room gets 8 hours of Afternoon sun. So the second floor always gets more sun through the windows than the first floor because other houses obstruct the sun when rising and when setting for the first floor. And the app always tells me “Warning too Dark” for certain plants in certain areas but it is most a false warning for some of the plants. Like cactus. Succulents. Those guys need 10 hours of sun. Do the at Noon light meter test and then as accurate as possible say what the distance is from the window sill. For the meter test I put my mobile phone at Noon right up on the window glass or window screen to get my reading. And always measure from the window sill. Plants up higher on a wall will get less light than those lower. The distance from the window sill is just longer.
