They’re epiphytic and like for the soil to dry out completely in between waterings, so I’d give it something super airy and well-draining. For example, you could mix equal parts cactus soil, perlite, and orchid bark together. Or do 1/2 soil, 1/2 perlite. Some people will also do a soil-free mix with materials such as equal parts coco coir (maybe a little less coco coir for a cactus), coco chips/orchid bark, perlite, and/or other well-draining options such as horticultural charcoal. It doesn’t really matter which option you go with, just as long as you have you have the right amount of aeration and drainage. If it were me personally, I’d go with equal parts cactus soil, perlite, and orchid bark; it’s a tried-and-true setup that’s inexpensive and easy to buy.

Hi Harper, this is such an awesome plant. I just purchased it as a bare-root plant. It was 4 double stems. I made up a soil of 40% Yates Cactus/Succulent, 30% Perlite, 30% Orchid Bark and a sprinkle of Pumice. This plant only arrived on 15.04.26 and potted the same night. It seems to be ok so far. 🙂
