I have a dilemma. I repotted my BOP early January because there were massive roots growing out of the bottom (I had to cut the pot to keep the roots) and the roots were also pushing the plant up and out of the pot because they were so big. When I watered it a couple days ago, there was a chonky root growing out of the bottom. How do you keep roots from growing out of the bottom of the pot before they fill the pot? Edit: Also, this is only an issue for me (the plant is happy). I just want the plant to sit flat in its cache pot, and I don’t want to have to cut another pot off this plant.

When I have time. Probably like 2/3 of the time I do.

You can put screen hole covers to cover the holes in the bottom of the pot before you put the plant in to prevent them from growing out of the holes. But too late to do that now. BoP are notorious for sticking big roots out. It’s sort of inevitable unless the holes are covered with mesh/screen.

I would google, but a lot of plants do fine if you just cut the roots. I know a lot of people do this with monsteras to maintain size so they don’t grow out of control, just cut off the bottom inch or so of roots and soil. But I would research before doing this to a BOP just in case.
