Hey there! I inherited this beauty from my BFF. It’s been in this pot for years and I’m having trouble removing it in order to divide and repot it. Any suggestions?

Break the pot?

1 me gustaHammer that pot, looks filthy anyways. Usually id say cut up the plant, but its so lovely!! That cant be a monstera, its too well behaved. What is she?

1 me gustaI’ve found any non plastic pot that has that curvature at the top to be really hard to remove the plant. It may help to dampen the soil slightly then I use a stick or flat trowel around the edges to release it, hopefully avoiding roots as much as possible. But if that pot is dispensable, why not? May be great to release stress 😆
1 me gustaIf you don’t want to break the pot, you could try putting the pot on its side and spraying water into the pot until much of the soil comes out, then the root balls should be loose and easily come out
1 me gustaThanks everyone! I was able to pull it out with some help. Any thoughts on how to divide it?
1 me gustaI would say pull it apart as carefully as you can. Find the individual parts and slowly pull them apart and untangle the roots. It’s ok if you have to cut a few roots, I’ve done it on a few of my plants and they’ve been ok, but if you’re willing to spend a bit of time pulling them apart one by one then definately do it!!
