Hi! I am new to plant growing. I would really love a taller plant or a plant that I can put on a stand that really doesn’t need much light and good for beginners. I already have a pothos, but would love to try another plant. Any recommendations?

A dracaena marginata would be your best bet. Can tolerate low light and super easy. Water it once soil is 100% dry. Can grow tall as well

Thanks for much for this! How often would I water it?

How often to water varies on how much light you are giving it. I would check it every 3 weeks or so if you have low light.

If you have cats, snake plants are hallucinating. Stay away from snake plants if you have cats in your house.

Seriously consider a grow light. You can find some nice looking ones on Amazon. I say this because many plants will survive in low light but they won’t thrive. They won’t look their best. They won’t grow, or it will be very slow. So you end up with a mediocre looking plant instead of a beautiful specimen that it could be.

💯 agree. And even if you have great light you can have seasons like this Spring on the East Coast where it's been overcast/raining constantly.

Do you have any brand of lights you recommend?

I have many grow lights. My favorite is Sansi, but for a floor light I would recommend Barrina. I have several. They have different styles to choose from. Often the difference is how efficient the lights are. The better brands are much brighter than the cheaper ones with the same wattage. Unfortunately because so many people are not familiar with the brightness of grow lights the ratings are not very reliable. Many will say a light is very bright because they have nothing to compare it to. Pics are a few of my lights. Just wanted to show you that I am familiar with them. Last pic is a couple of Barrina verticals. I think they have an overhead light also.

Rubber plants (I have a Burgundy & variegated Ficus Elastica on route) and Dracenias (I have a Lemon Lime) are all super easy & inexpensive to buy at 2ft or more).
