Hey y’all! I need help 😭 - I’m newish to plants, but if I can say so myself, I’ve learned a lot of things quickly. I have thriving alocasias and calatheas, and I’m very happy about it! There’s only one plant that consistently yellows and dies on me (I’ve had 5), and that’s pothos. Fam, I have no idea why the easiest plant is my biggest nightmare. Any tips? I’ve moved it away from AC’s, I’ve made sure it’s in bright areas, I’ve repotted and not repotted, and pothos always die on me. The only possible reason I can think of is that I use an ULTRA chunky mix I make myself on all my plants - could pothos not really work in that? Does it need more water retention? Let me know your thoughts. Signed, a very tired plant mom 🤣

Looks more like a overwatering issue to me. Do not water your plants especially a pothos when this app directs to do so. I always check my pothos plants with my finger or my soil moisture meter. Then don’t beat yourself up also I have also noticed that some plants depending on where you purchased them already be sick from the nursery. I lost a beautiful pothos and thought it was me until one day I decided to finally get rid of all the soil around the roots to examine. To my surprise the roots were supported by rubber bands from them propagating the plant from a mother plant. The plant would have survived had I known that to remove it sooner

Thank y’all! The only issue is that this is about two weeks of owning it, and I only watered it when I repotted it two weeks ago 🙁

Sometimes plants need time to adjust, this might just be a temporary faze 🤔

I typically don’t water my pothos till they get droopy. They’re pretty forgiving. A lot of the leaves still look very healthy. It may just be a little shock.

That sure is odd!! My pothos don’t have a ton of light. I use the indoor potting mix bag from Lowe’s. If it’s only been 2 weeks, I’d give a good trim of those yellow leaves, and just keep trying!

I was thinking it’s too dry because I don’t see any of the spots on the leaves that appeared when I watered my first pothos plants to death. 😁 Additionally, the new environment and too early repot adds stress to a plant which is why some sellers void the warranty if you repot within 30 days of delivery (Steve Leaves). My plants in 4” pots can’t go 2 weeks between waterings. I recommend checking the soil for moisture every 3-4 days. Use your finger or a tool like a wooden meat skewer or chopstick. Water thoroughly as soon as the soil dries. Bottom watering will ensure all of the soil is saturated with water. Remove the pot from the container of water as soon as the top soil is moist. Then, fully drain the excess water before putting the plant into an outer pot. Add a grow light within a foot for consistent lighting and run it at least 12 hours a day. Leaves can yellow with too little light. Pothos can live in lower light conditions. But, too low lighting can cause leaves to yellow and drop. It’s better to dilute fertilizer and apply it more often to prevent fertilizer burn. Fertilizer burn can turn leaves yellow. 🪴🍀

Maybe shock from repotting too soon. Keep trimming as they yellow off and it should bounce back. I usually water mine every 12 days. They don’t need direct light. They can be across room and thrive. Good luck!

Unrelated but kinda related, how do you keep your calathias alive? Thats like some of 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 plants for being difficult, alongside orchids (theyre actually kinda easy for me at least) anyways, I need knowledge
