So a few weeks ago I repotted a couple plants - a snow queen pothos here and a variegated Alocasia frydek - into self watering pots. In both, but mostly in my pothos, the roots grew so fast and down into the water through the drainage holes. But they’re also showing so much new growth since I did this. Is it okay if I leave them like this for awhile? I just worry about root rot!

Congrats, you’re now growing them in semi-hydro! (Joking.) I wouldn’t worry too much about root rot. Pothos will actually grow in water alone, so it’s pretty hearty in that regard. Depending on the type of self-watering pot, perhaps consider keeping the water level a little lower? The main concern would be the moisture level of the soil: if it’s sopping wet all the time, the roots in the soil will be more likely to rot.

Thank you, will do! It’s just the string that hangs down in the water (and now ofc the roots LOL) and no soil touches it so I’ll keep that in mind :)

As long as water isn't so high that it's touching the soil and keeping it soaked it's not an issue with those roots being in the water. Pothos and vining philodendron varieties are really, really good at finding water so the roots "hunt" for it like that even though the plant isn't root bound.
