I have a string of hearts in water propagation. And I want to put it in a pot. What type of soil do you guys recommend? It still has a lot of water roots.

i would recommend planting it in perlite or leca or another semi-hydroponic medium before transitioning to soil. water roots are weak and soft and string of hearts already has delicate roots so the transition to soil can be rough on the plant. once it has spent a month or two in semi-hydro and adjusted to some level of drought, the transition to soil or soilless media will be much easier. my string of hearts are planted in media that is about 40% moisture retentive mix (coco coir, fine perlite, and worm castings, or for my older plants, all purpose potting soil) and 60% grit like pumice, and various grades of perlite.

They strive good in well drained cacti potting mix, they do appreciate fertility, but if the soil is too rich, they can become straggly-looking. If you do use an ordinary potting mix, then add in some pumice or perlite to ensure sufficient drainage. Hope this helps ❤️‍🩹

I’ve rooted and potted VSOH many times. Mine have always done well potting into a mix of good quality potting soil, extra pumice or perlite, some small orchid bark, and a small amount of charcoal. Use a 2-2.5” pot so that it dries out in a reasonable amount of time (much like Hoyas, similar to succulents). I haven’t had any fail yet 🌱
