Oh me! I am in a dilema….😢. My plants have been doing so well since I got them last April in my sunroom I decided to turn into a plant room. I had some little 3 & 4” pots that had baby plants in them and I decided it was time to put them in bigger pots. All was going well until I was pressing the new dirt around my Aglaonema Red Anjamani. I must have lost my focus for a split second and pressed too hard and I snapped the plant off its STEM! 😩WAH! WAH! WAH! I quickly put the plant top in a small vase of water and I’m hoping the stem with sprout a leaf. But since it’s only a stem, doesn’t it have to have a leaf? I’m so sad. I got this plant in Auburn AL when I was escaping our last hurricane. 😢

Hey there 👋 completely understand the panic in losing any aglaonema leaves, and yours is gorgeous. Just to help in answering what you specifically need help with, are you asking for propagation tips for the half that snapped off? And if so, would you rather have tips on a water propagation, or prefer trying to propagate it in soil?

Prob water so I can see the roots. It is in natural spring water, no chlorine or fluoride or salt. Do you know if the stem will sprout a new leaf if I keep it moist and put a grow light over it? Also, I just got about 6 grow lights and notice they have different levels of brightness. How do I know how long to run the lights and which setting I should use. Here is my sunroom on the north side of the house. Full windows, but faces north. Excuse the repotting stuff on the table!

Here is the plant and the stem at finger tip sticking up out of the dirt.😢 Thanks so much for your reply.

For how long you should keep the grow lights on, it depends on the amount of light your plant was used to before it was detached from its original base. If it’s used to a lower light location, I’d start with a lower setting and amount of hours to avoid risk of lightening the leaves, but if you got it used to a grow light before, or a brighter location, then it could be under a brighter setting. I think it’ll be more likely to work on developing roots to survive rather than focus its energy on a new leaf atm. If you put the base of the plant under a grow light, not the piece broken off, it might grow some new leaves, but it depends on how much of the base was broken off.
