I pruned my pothos to root some cuttings to fill in the top of the pot some more. Those cuttings are now ready to be planted in soil but I have never put cuttings into a pot that already a plant. Any tips?

If you’re going straight from water to soil then keep it more watered than usual for the first week or two

The roots will have to adapt to the new environment and it’ll be easier if you keep it closer to what they grew in

I’m a recent Pothos (marble queen) parent so I’m new to this too but I’ve heard of a method where you add a little soil to the propagation water over a period of time to acclimatise the roots so when you finally pot into soil it’s not such a shock to your plant. I haven’t tried this method but it’s one I’m going to try with my Pothos props. I’m also going to try just poking a hole in the soil and shoving the prop in there. I’ve heard they’re pretty resilient.

I might be misunderstanding based on these comments but it sounds like you want to add the rooted cuttings back into the mother plant’s pot, right? if that’s the case, i just poke around with my fingers/hands and gently dig out a spot and drop them in. the tips for shock are good, but my experience with pothos is that you won’t have a problem going from water straight to soil

Yes that is what I am looking to do. I’m afraid of messing up the mother plant on it also grew really well and should be really well established as it’s been over a year since it was put in a pot from the originally cuttings I had.

you won’t mess it up — they’re hardy and if you damage a few of the mother plants roots in the process it will be ok
