what do you do to keep your begonia maculata happy? she was growing really great for a while but then suddenly she dropped a bunch of leaves and got a bit leggy. it was originally 3 stalks but one died completely, before it died i tried to propagate a healthy part of it and it didn’t work so im a little nervous to try to trim her down and propagate her again.

That’s a pretty and looks to be healthy plant! So those little points where the leaves fell are new leaves that will grow and replace the missing ones. I had a similar problem with mine. I had to make sure it had a bit of humidity (50% give or take) and light. Also don’t let it dry completely out between waterings, and don’t forget to feed it. 😉 These guys (Rex begonias) are sensitive to changes in their environment especially when it comes to light and humidity. Sudden changes will cause shock sometimes. Oh, also might want to make sure it’s away from any drafty areas or areas where the temperature fluctuates a lot. I’m no expert but I have a lot of begonias so I’ve done a lot of experimenting and dealt with most of the common begonia problems. They are wonderful plants. And yours is going to be fine!!! 😊

Also, it will naturally sprout more branches. Just give it a little time.
