Anyone else's spider plant just.... sad? I've had this guy for 2 years. No matter how much/little water I give him, the tips of his leaves get crusty.... Could this be a sunlight issue? If anything, I was thinking it doesn't get enough sun. But wouldn't that cause yellowing, as opposed to dry & crinkly leaves? I repotted today with fresh fertilizer and a deeper pot. Fingers crossed that this will help. Any tips are welcome! 🙏

I’ve heard that they can be sensitive to chemicals in tap water. You can let the water sit out for 24hrs before you use it or you can use distilled water and see if this helps. The brown tips won’t ever be green again but you can snip them off

Wow, i had no clue! Thanks. I'll look into this. I'm on a well so no city chemicals, but the well is treated from time to time...

I have well water also. My fish love it. I do let mine set out even though it shouldn’t have chlorine in it. Some of my plants still get brown tips but I think that is from low humidity. So, I wish I had really thought before my first and second answers and could have put the three possibilities I can think of into one response. This could be from chemicals in your water, low humidity, or drying too much between waterings. 😁

I have high humidity issues and this plant is in the bathroom, so i can probably rule that out. Every once in a while, our well is treated with bleach because of an overgrowth of iron bacteria. So maybe this could be the issue?! I really appreciate your time. I never would have even thought of the water being the cause. It makes sense though, because sometimes the dry tips seem to come out of nowhere. I'll try watering with RO or distilled, or letting the water sit out first so the bleach dissipates. Thanks again!

Also have a well. Honestly just leaving the water out doesn’t do much. But once I switched to distilled for watering, WAY happier and less brown tips! Good luck 👍

Also wondering if the soil gets too dry between watering?

I don't think so, but possibly... I go off Plantas schedule. I've tried adding/subtracting a few days during different trial periods, with no change. 🫤

Mine was sad too and I put it outside on the porch. It has perked right up and looks happy again. Is producing some pups!!

I have twice filtered water and every spider plant I’ve own turns brown on the tips. Drove me crazy til I finally put it on the “ Do not buy again list”. Speaking of humidity I bought a pair of small humidifiers on Amazon for $42. They work great.

Ah... I'm sorry for your experience, but I'm also glad I'm not the only one 😅

Use a moisture meter with a ph meter. Check the ph level. Spider plants really like to be 6/7 acidity. If it is lower than about 5 you will see this happen. It just doesn’t do anything or gets pale/ thin. You can get acidic soil from tap water or too much peat in the soil.
