To repot or not….that is the question. I’m a newbie to the plant world and I have 8 plants currently surviving (lol). I went down the rabbit hole and it seems like the general potting mixture is orchid bark, perilite, and potting soil. 1. Is that correct? 2. Should I repot the 8 I have now? 3. If I get new plants should I start using that mix? Background on the 8: some of them are in pots with no drainage holes and they all are just potted with regular indoor potting soil. Thanks in advance!!

I’m intrigued to see what kind of response you get! I’ve got 22 plants but they are all in a standard potting soil. I’ve thought about adding some perlite to a few and even have a bag of it but haven’t repot any of them yet.

I personally use a chunky soil mix of what you’ve said for everything but Depending on the plant depends how “chunky” it is Repotting depends on the plants roots. A peace lily kind of likes being abit root bound. New plants I leave for a couple days to a week before repotting so they can settle in their new environment first. GET DRAINAGE HOLES 😂 I have all mine in clear pots so I can see the roots in general, how the soil is sitting around the roots when repotting and the dryness between watering. Then I just put them in nice pots or the basic plastic ones they come in til I get it a fancy one Hope that covers yours questions 😂

I’d say that that mixture of soil isn’t 100% standard for all plants. If your plants are doing well, I wouldn’t give them the stress of repotting. I’d any of them aren’t doing well, research what kind of soil they thrive in and then repot. Good luck!
