Questions about the monstera a recently got from Home Depot. 1. What kind of soil mix is this, that they use? 2. It’s been a week since I got it, I haven’t watered it yet, and the soil is still moist. Should I be worried about this? It’s in a 9” pot I believe.

Big box stores typically put plants in soil that retains quite a bit of moisture so they don’t have to water as frequently. That said, monsteras like a bit chunkier soil compositionwith more aeration. In my experience moisture meters are pretty darn accurate with denser soil, sometimes have to poke in more than one spot to make sure it’s not just in a dry spot and ensure an accurate reading. If the soil is very chunky then it’s going to be less accurate because there will be larger air pockets and therefore less material touching the tip of the moisture reader.

I would definitely recommend repotting it with your own soil as big box stores use coco soil which is really bad

I definitely want to repot it, but so scared to. I was trying to wait a few weeks until it acclimates, but the soil is still moist in some spots. So I’m worried about root rot. The top layers are dry but still moist in the middle and bottom. Definitely want to get it in a chunky soil mix, just don’t know when I should do it.
