I decided to post my rant instead of making it as a comment. I recently decided to grow Plants about 6 months and I have about 50 of them. I have grown to love my simple ones. They’re not fancy but they grow well. I adore some of my more complicated ones, but I’m so frustrated because they want to die all the time. You guys know, I’m sure, that the AI has a hard time diagnosing the problems. It’s watered too much. It’s watered too little. It’s too far from the grow lights or it’s too close to the grow lights; and I can get all of that for one diagnosis! It’s really pretty useless. I try everything including good fertilizer as directed. chunky soil, moisture indicator lights, and verbally begging them not to die. I’m sure this post is too vague to get usable advice, but I still thought I’d put it out these. Maybe I’ll at least get a little sympathy from like-minded people. (Happy plants+ 1 sad plant)

    Sympathy is needed for me too! Same 6 months so new to this. I have turned to YouTube because the general solutions sometimes don’t work for me either. I do see improvements when I’m more consistent.

      Seconding YouTube as a suggestion. I’ve learned most of what I know about plant care from watching videos on there. It’s much better to learn from the experts than to rely on apps/AI.

    I can say that the calatheas need HUMIDITY and very gentle/clean water: distilled or rain is all that can touch mine or its brown-leaf city.

      People should just not grow calatheas. They’re like indoor gardenias.

    On my plant journey what I learned from them is patience. People have been growing plants long before AI, so agreed look for advice/tips from people. Sounds like you're learning their basic needs, soil types, who needs humidity, who needs filtered water...Now, let the plants tell you what they need. Before watering use a chopstick, finger, water meter, don't follow a strict watering schedule. If leggy, stretching towards light, move them closer to a light...Each plant can adapt to your environment, it just takes time. You've got this! 🙂

      I always use my Britta filtered water for my plants. Is that good enough? I’ll ask you tube.

    Some plants are just hopeless. I keep buying them and keep killing them. But other plants do fine! I think a lot of it has to do with your location. Sometimes your light and humidity just happens to hit the sweet spot for a difficult plant…and sometimes you just don’t have what an “easier” plant wants. So you experiment a little.

    If you would like to fix that Maranta I’ve had really great luck in LECA. Mine came back from one leaf that was a little damaged to now starting to cascade in about 5 months.

    My calathea is currently the problem child. My best is also considered “difficult” but she is a very happy philodendron. It’s funny how some plants thrive while others make you want to scream. Winter will be here soon and everything will be different.
