Hello! I have recently had interest in selling plants and was wondering if those who have had success doing so have any advice or thoughts to share. Current plants I have on sale/near selling: mon. adansonii, spider plants, also syngonium, neon pothos, lemon meringue pothos, heart leaf philodendron, and njoy pothos. I have a wet stick going right now for a mon. albo as well.

Are you selling them potted or bare root?

Right now most of them are rooted cuttings. I think i may move some to small pots and take new pictures.

Good question! That I do not know. That’s why I’m curious to pick other people’s minds. I wonder if receiving a cutting appeals more to plant enthusiasts since they know more on proper care for a cutting versus if you want to reach a wider audience you would put it in a pot since most people know how to care for a plant in that stage.

Personally I hate the idea of buying unrooted cuttings. So much effort & expense for possibly nothing. I prefer to buy something with at least some roots. But maybe I’m wrong on this? Is it easier for the plant to start growing roots at its final destination, or does the stress of shipping limit the cutting’s viability? 🤔 That being said, I’d be much more likely to buy a cutting in person than having it shipped. Of the plants I ordered online, nearly all of them have struggled, more than other, comparable plants I bought in-person.

Personally it depends. Generally on the price. More expensive plants cost more rooted, so I'll happily pay $30 for fresh cutting, vs $50-70 for roots. I've rarely had a cutting that didn't root. If the seller is a good seller, they will also replace a plant that shipped poorly. Though I've rarely had to have that happen either.

If you're selling bare root. The best way to ship is to wrap a small amount of moist sphaghum moss around the roots and saran wrap into a little "plug" . Then use a butcher paper to roll it up and tape it... if they are delicate leaves, surround them with some polyfill fiber before rolling them up.

For potted, depending on the size, you'll want to push some moist moss or paper towel around the dirt. Tape it down as close to the plant as possible (making sure the tapes all on the towel. Then polyfil as needed. And butcher paper it up. Make sure to wrote the names on each butcher paper. There is also a corrugated paper that's really nice. That's great for wrapping pots. Then you can saran wrap the top and bottom to keep in moisture too

Also you'll want to order 72hr heat packs and foil bubble wrap for winter shipping (or at least the foil, sometimesthe pkg is to small to put a heat pak in). And cryopak phase 22 are nice for summer. But spendy. Worthit for more expensive plants. And you can always add in a return mailer.
