We are probably moving in the next 6 months or so. I have about 230 plants. Has anyone moved that many before? Any tips? What about if it's really cold at the time? We're in New England and going even further north. 🤦🏼 I honestly think I am going to have to rent a separate covered U-Haul trailer to move just the plants. And no, I can't downsize before the move.

I didn’t have that many but I had a bunch… I put them all in open cardboard boxes so they were really close to keep them snug and keep them from tipping. I gave a couple of the larger ones to my friend only because I ran out of room. But you could also box the boxes of plants in between things like dressers so they help protect them during the move. They’ll make it, mine did! 😁

Do you know of anyone near where you are going? You'll have to take Some trips up before the full move i would just pack up the car and move some at a time to stay with someone for a bit. 🤷🏼‍♀️

That's a good idea. My niece is up there she works two full-time jobs so maybe I'll just bring her some cactus. They don't take much work.

Your biggest problem will be the temperature shock when you move them from house to vehicle. Choose a warm sunny day and wrap them in something. Any cold damage may take several days to show up.

I moved cross country in the winter. It was brutal. I did try to give away a lot of my collection, Took cuttings of some of my more "precious" plants I gave away. Some of them are still recovering from one night of below freezing temps, some didn't make it. Pack them in boxes, wrap the pots in plastic bags. Try your best to keep them from tipping over. My poor orchid still as the scars from my Madagascar Palm falling on it.

I’ve not personally done this, but I know disposable heat packs are used when shipping plants. Maybe you could get some and put them into any closed boxes to keep the heat in with the plants. Also, if the move doesn’t require an overnight stop, squeezing as many as possible into the climate controlled cars is another possible solution. I would also try to time it so none of the plants are freshly watered. When I last moved I did this and it really cut down on the weight of the pots. And if it’s cold it should also help minimize root shock/cold damage.

I loaded everything then put 3 large wire shelves at the end of the U-Haul . They had like 4 or 5 shelves each.cheap on Amazon Put the plants on. Put a bungee on each shelf hooking to the posts so the plants can’t slide off. Cover with sheets/blankets. Offload first.

Had moved 175 plants several times Used cup dividers so things wouldn’t tip and when stocked used stretch wrap for the bottom, top and sides went from Colorado to Arizona same process when moved to AZ to NY past Wyoming every stop added hand warmers all survived very little if almost no shock
