So, I’m in the middle of a repot of this poor plant (Ctenanthe) but I want to share this photo of a root carpet! I bought it a month ago in horrible condition and extremely root bound

Wow!
1 likeWow! I’m a novice plant person and would be interested to know how you dealt with this? Just gently breaking it apart?
1 likeLol nope! I sawed off the carpet with my hori-hori knife then I cut the pot off with pruning shears making cuts all around and that was the easiest part. I sawed it in fourths and that took about an hour but I had to take breaks and I even tried brute strength pulling it apart but it was like cutting a cabbage made of wood. Then because the center of the plant was taller than the rest of the rootball I had to cut the bottom off until it was able to sit straight in each pot. I was able to get four 6” inch pots and one 4” inch pot and a few props. So from one pot I think it was a bargain! 😁 The plant is a Ctenanthe setosa I got from Home Depot online, from a grower called Absolute Perfection 😂
