Hello everyone! I have a Petra Croton and for some reason it’s stayed like this for months. No death, no growth nothing! I’ve tried doing a pebble tray for humidity but I don’t think it works (at least for me). Any ideas how to stimulate the growth? Thank you! @sustain_planetearth on ig

They are sooo hard to grow indoors because of their light requirements. Either move outdoors or get a grow light

So funny because I have it by my grow light and it’s so dormant!

How strong of a grow light?

Pretty strong i’d say. My plants are growing and thriving except this one and another plant I have, Caladium.

Do you know the wattage? Or what light? Guaranteed it needs more than any other plant you have near the light

It’s common for plants to experience slow growth and dormancy in the winter months. It’s important not to over-fertilize during this time. Keep doing what you’re doing, and springtime should bring some new growth for you!

Thank you!! I hope so. It’s so dormant it makes me a little sad but thank you for the reassurance! Hopefully the same goes for my Caladium that is also dormant.

This isn’t true if you’re regularly giving it light from a grow light which you said you are. Dormancy and winter growth rates are due to there being less light each day, you’re providing the same light (I assume) each day

Crotons are tropical plants that don’t go into dormancy. They need full sun. They thrive in hot tropical climates and high humidity. You have to simulate that environment which is difficult to do in a home. Increasing the light will also bring out the colors.

I would give a grow light and a humidifier if you want it to get super big, mine are just in my living room however, near a heater, and humidifier, and a big window and one is 3 foot tall, one is 5 foot tall!

Thank you! I have a grow light and I had it over a pebble tray but the pebble tray didn’t really improve the condition. I may have to get a regular humidifier and see if that works. Thanks!

Just throwing it out there but what about a terrarium? Like a cute little geometric one. Since you’re using a grow light, that’s going to let it collect a little extra heat and humidity. I keep my crotons in a converted IKEA cabinet with grow bulbs and they love it. Before that, I had them in my sunroom but they got too cold (zone 6a) and dropped a bunch of leaves until I moved them. Even with grow bulbs though, you’re still likely to experience slower growth during the cold winter months even if it’s not completely dormant.

Yea, a terrarium would work! Mine are giant so I can’t do that but it would work for a small one for sure.

I can absolutely try that. I’m open to any and all ideas so that’s more than helpful. Thank you!!

I have one that was similar, in fact, it started dying off (I actually lost one stalk) until I put it in a window. Now it is growing too fast for me to keep up!
