Hey! New to the plant world! Trying to make my own chunky soil mix… I have leca and coco coir, literally nowhere says the preparation I’m looking for. Do I soak/ rinse before adding to my soil mix? I don’t use soil often, so will it mold or go bad in a container?

    What plant are you planning on putting in this mix?

    Not sure about the mix but I do know that both of those items need to be soaked first. The coir only takes about 15 minutes but the leca should be at least 24 hours.

    Why the leca mixed in. I often use at bottom of pot to aid drainage but never purposely add it to the soil mix. If you want more airy soil, add pumice, orchid bark, and perlite. I think some people use the coir also to loosen up the soil but I have not.

      Leca provides oxygen pockets while retaining some moisture, similar to perlite
