    It's a coprinoid mushroom. Like with most fungi, it can be difficult to ID down to species. The mushroom part is a reproductive thing, like flowers on plants. The majority of a mushroom's life cycle is spent as root-like mycellium in the soil. (If you ever want to raise a mushroom, put the soil you found it in into a container with soil and bark and keep it moist. They don't even need light; just wood chips and moisture.) Coprinoid mushrooms are harmless to plants. Humans and pets should not eat them (they're not very dangerous but can make you sick)
