Heya! I purchased 2 plants the other day and they are the bangalow palm & birds of paradise. Any tips on how to look after well? Mainly the BOP plant? Here’s a picture for reference! Thank you!

Birds need a lot of light especially if you want them to bloom. It can handle some direct sun but not the intense midday Sun.they are toxic to cats and dogs, and maybe the people too. They are very thirsty but should not be waterlogged. Probably need to water every day in the summer. High humidity, regular misting and regular feeding. Birds are heavy feeders during the growing season.

1 me gustaI am located in Melbourne, Australia and we are currently entering winter! Seeing as there won’t be much sun what do I do on the cooler/rainy days?
0 Me gustaAlso, I have 2 miniature dachshunds, they don’t chew on plants is it only toxic if they ate the plant or?
0 Me gustaAlso, in terms of watering, feeding, misting etc how often should I be doing it in winter time? How do I determine when to do it? Sorry for the million questions haha!
0 Me gustaIts toxic only when chewed. Sharing a common space is ok :)
1 me gustaIt is toxic if ingested. If you think the dog will eat it I would communicate with your vet to decide how toxic it is. As far as humidity I would get a small humidifier or put it on a pebble tray. Humidifier would be the better choice. Misting is beneficial but optional especially if you get a humidifier. It would likely enjoy daily misting but it will take whatever it can get. Light is a hard factor to gauge. It would probably be beneficial to have a grow light during the winter. There are lots of fancy ones online or you can find one at most garden centers. You can also get a light intended for warming chickens and get a grow bulb to put in it.
