Hi everyone! 👋 I’m new here and new to plants. Does anyone know why my baby rubber plant is turning brown? I’ve been trying so hard not to over or under water!

I believe this happens as the plant matures. Mine looks the exact same way and is putting out a lot of new growth.

いいね 1件The reddish speckling is completely natural to Peperomia obtusifolias. It’s actually a feature I really love about the ones in my collections. If you want some ways to help prevent overwatering, though, I’m happy to share some tips 😊 - they enjoy getting rootbound between repottings and being generally more snug in their pots. My rule of thumb is to keep them in a pot no more than 1-2 inches wider in diameter than the width of the plant’s root ball. - They’re epiphytic, which means they need really well-draining soil to survive as houseplants. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix for mine. Please avoid Miracle Grow brand soil, even their cactus mix for this type of plant. - I let mine completely dry out between waterings. I use a bamboo barbecue skewer to test if the soil is dry enough to water. If the skewer comes out completely clean and dry after sticking it all the way down in the soil in 2-3 different spots in the pot, it should be safe to water. If the soil sticks to the skewer and you can feel any moisture on it, snooze it for 2 days and test it again then. Hope this helps! 😊
