I have never heard of a pothos only being capable of having 1 vine. I think the issue with that is they naturally only have one but propagating and cutting can end up encouraging multiple growth points. Every node theoretically can start a new vine, it just depends on if the plant wants to grow a leaf or a vine there

really? i always see people complaining that their pothos just won't branch, and some people will even get the starts of branches and then the rest stagnate while one takes the lead. i rarely see vining plants with multiple growth points on one stem, only ever multiple main stems in one pot

They can only produce so much growth at once so 99% of the time they only focus on 1 vine at a time but there’s always that lil exception. My marble queen has probably around 18-22 vines but when I originally repotted it with the golden pothos it lives with, there was only 8 individual plants in there. I have noticed only 8 vines have grown to add any significant length though so it seems to choose a favorite vine and go. It’s planted super densely so I can’t get a picture of anything but a mass of leaves. Hopefully yours keeps up both and vines off of both of them.

I’ve had my pothos branch, not often but a few times
