Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Planta says it’s a philodendron. Ive had Phil Hartman for a couple of years now and he’s grown quite a bit but I’ve never seen him look like that when new growth is coming. Also, this sad, wilted looking part has me wondering what to do with it, if anything. Planta also says to water it once a month but i sometimes jump the gun bc the soil seems just so dry. It gets hot around here! He stays outside most of the year (zone 8B) Thanks for any advice.

It’s a philodendron birkin and it looks like it might be blooming!

Idk that looks like a mass of new leaves that are rotting to me 🥴😂

You know you might be right 😝😅My phone was dimmed and on a warm tone setting bc it’s still dark here lol but idk what it is honestly. I haven’t ever seen a bloom on a birkin before to compare but I’ve never seen a jumble of new leaves like that either.

Mine is doing the same thing. It looks crazy! I personally thought it looked like a clump of new growth. 🤞

How’s the humidity? If humidity is low, you may get a leaf (or a few it looks) stuck in the sheath. If stuck too long, they can rot inside. I imagine that’s what’s happening.

Do you know what to do for it? I’m on the gulf coast so it’s generally humid.

Some people have success misting it to encourage the leaves to grow out. That’s never worked for me. I moved my plants that were doing it to a room with 70% humidity and that worked for me.

This is mine that was doing it. It seems to happen to a lot of my phils. I have to rotate them in and out of the high humidity room
