Hi everyone! I want to get into plants but I’m worried about the toxicity of them because I have two littles running around. Can anybody suggest what plants I can bring into my home that won’t poison my kiddos if they get too curious? TIA!!

Maybe consider hanging your plants? I did that for a while with my Pothos and philodendron.

Here are some easy-to-care-for plants that Planta says are not toxic to humans. I have cats, dogs, and kids, and these are the ones I don’t have to be as careful about. Ponytail palm Snake plant Peperomia Money tree Parlor palm Spider plant I also have several pothos and other toxic plants. Just have to be careful of where they’re placed, and watch any hanging plants for falling leaves.

Thank you so much for the list! I didn’t know how to search for it in the app, so I figured I’d ask people with first hand experience. Thank you again!

ponytail palm leaves can be sharp and pointy though - just a heads up :)

That’s a good point! I’ve received at least two ā€œpaper cutsā€ from the edges of palm leaves.

Unfortunately you can’t search by toxicity in the app, you have to look up specific plants and then it’ll tell you if they’re known to be toxic. I just knew which ones the app listed as not toxic to humans based on where I have those plants in my house, and double-checked my list against the app. (:

There are tons of amazing plants non toxic to have around. I also have a little and I would suggest trying to get them into it with you ! Once I started showing my daughter all the plants and their new leaves and involved her more she became more interested and cautious of them. She now runs to me when she sees new leaves sprouting šŸ˜‡

I’m sure they’ll get just as excited as you ! 😁 as someone mentioned above I would say there’s a handful of great plants Spider plant Rubber tree Prayer plant Snake plant Pony palm Those are all good starters and non toxic. I would say it also depends on the plant route you’re trying to take as well which, plants interest you most, what do you like to look at when you look at plants, that sort of thing. I would also suggest a pothos, hanging high enough if you could. They bounce back real fast there’s a bunch of different types with different looks and they grow pretty quickly 😁 also if ingested or touched you would need a lotttt of it to get that toxic reaction you’re thinking of, better safe than sorry tho I know ! Haha. Have a great day šŸ˜‡

I try to keep to non toxic plants too. I have loads of different hoyas, all the lipstick plant varieties, loads of calatheas, spider plants, ferns, string of hearts, snake plants, dragon tree, marantas, Chinese money plants, African violets... Probably more that I can't think of right now. I use Google or this app to find out if plants are toxic or not, so hopefully not, but I might be wrong about some of them. Hope that helps

Thank you so much!! I used google for a list but after I bought a couple, this app said there was a little toxicity to them. Sooo šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø lol

Yes that's so frustrating! I have a rhipsalis because I read it was non toxic, and then when I added it on here it said it was toxic. But I've just moved him up high and over a shelf, so if any leaves fall off I can pick them up without my baby reaching them. Hoyas, calatheas and lipstick plants are my go to for non toxic plants though! And there's so many varieties of each!
