Can anyone help me with my Rubber plant? I bought it as two plants in one pot, and the right plant seems to be struggling. A few of the lower leaves have turned yellow and dropped off. I’ve tried moving it around the room for more or less sunlight. But it doesn’t seem to be improving. Any ideas??

Is it just the yellowing lower leaves that you're concerned about? That happens as the trees mature and bark up at the bottom. As long as it's still producing healthy leaves on the top, it's probably nothing to worry about.

When you bought Rhonda, did you repot her? Maybe separate the two or check the roots - the roots might be competing for light, water, and nutrients. 🪴✨

No I didn’t, I’m wondering whether I should try and separate them and repot to give them the best shot. Thank you

Of course, if all is well when you check the roots and you want to keep them together, maybe repot in a slightly bigger nursery pot so both root systems have space to thrive ☺️

Slightly off topic RoRo, do you have ficus elastica in individual pots? If so, do they seem to grow tall really quickly? I have 3 in one pot and they grow at least 1 foot every year (each). I've thought about separating them, but I'm a bit concerned about how quickly they might grow if they're not competing for root space 😅

I do not, at the moment I’m looking for a Rubber Tree - Tineke 🪴 3 in one? I would love to see that! I know rubber trees are moderate to fast growers depending on light , so I’m sure if you were to separate them with the same amount of light you give them now, they will probably grow taller ✨

This is from last month. They're in a 9" pot. The green velcro strap is to hold them up as the dirt dries out; the last week or so before watering, they're too top heavy to keep themselves upright. That's what initially made me think of separating them. I think they're growing too quickly for me right now though and I'm not a fan of needing to constantly trim or propagate lol

It could be an indication of too much water. Maybe space out the watering frequency a little more.

Yeah that was my first thought so I started spreading it out a little further. Thank you

shock from moving from the store to your house. stop moving it around, they shock really easily. let it adjust to your house for a week before you start doing anything else

I agree with stop moving it around. While the rubber tree version of Ficus is more durable, they don’t like a lot of moving. That being said, I think you need to look at the soil and roots. It is definitely throwing a fit! If it has a root issue I would want to separate it out of the pot with healthy one. My guess is that it will continue to shed leaves.

Thank you, I’m definitely going to separate these girls and see how they do
