Okay, friends. I think I can jump to the next level and go from beginner plant mom to intermediate (whatever word you want to use lol). I have (and am keeping alive) a pothos, syngonium albo, string of hearts, aloe, zz plant, heart leaf philodendron, and a spider plant. What next?? 🌱

    You could try calathea or peace lily. It’s interesting to see time lapses of their leaves throughout a day or before/after watering.

    You might want to avoid the Calathea. I have been growing plants for over 50 years and any strain of Calathea has kicked my.#*$🥴

      I’ve heard nothing but horror stories with Calathea’s. What is it about them that makes them so hard to keep alive?

      They are very sensitive to the type of water that you use, distilled would be the optimal, but that gets to be a pain after a while making sure you always have some on hand and who wants to buy water! I use filtered well water, but it still does not seem to be happy with that. I have it by a humidifier , but it still seems to be crunchy around the edges. Never let it dry out or it's a downhill slope from there. They like a very humid environment. They don't like being too wet. They don't like getting dry they like light, but not too much. all in all, I would not have one had I not been gifted one when my mom passed away nine months ago. I'm trying my darndest to keep it alive. 🥴

    I love my Birkin plants and IMO would consider them easy. Good luck - sounds like you’re doing great!!

    I would suggest maybe a sanseveria (snake plant) or a dracaena

    Try an orchid! Good ones for people new to them include phalenopsis (basic grocery store orchids. These are a great first epiphyte, or plant that clings to trees in the wild), dendrobiums (a good starter for the species that do a wet season/dry season cycle. They're very tolerant of drought), jewel orchids (a good starter terrestrial and very tolerant of lower light), and paphiopedilums (good starter terrestrial and wonderfully showy)

      Yes!!!! I want a Thai constellation so bad but I share a house with a roommate and we don’t have a lot of room for one :(

    Monstera Thai con or Albo would be an intro to intermediates. I’m DEEP into my Scindapsus bag right now. Exotica, Jade Satin are easy. There are tons of variegated options for scins. You could look into rarer pothos varieties like the Teruno line. Prayer plants and Calatheas are intermediate. They need a specialized care routine to keep healthy. I’m just starting to dabble in Alocasia. Those have not been easy for me lol
