Hey there!! I got these from my friends succulents while I was visiting. 🤫 but dont worry, she let me. Will these propagate? If I put them in water will they grow roots?

Need better pictures. Look like dead/rotting leaves of a Crassula maybe? Can’t really tell what they are… probably don’t put them in water though if you’re trying to propagate- wait for the roots to grow and the mother leaf to die

How will the roots grow? Should I put them in anything, or just leave them on a plate? Do I need to do anything to ensure growth of roots?

Depends on the plant! Do you know what plant they came from?

I think that was one of them

And that definitely was the other one

The first one is a hobbit finger jade and the bottom is a zebra plant. I don’t have experience with propagating either of them specifically, but definitely don’t put them in water. The zebra plant cutting is probably just fine to sit on top of some dry soil until it starts growing roots, at which point you could start giving it some water. I think that jades only grow if you cut a node with it, so I doubt your leaf will do anything, but it doesn’t hurt to try! Treating it the same way as the zebra plant will be your best bet.

Nope, can’t prop zebra leaves - the jade you can! You’ve got em backwards!

it’s not okay to steal pieces of your friends’ plants. i would be quite upset if i discovered a friend had taken leaves off my succulents, especially slow growing ones like haworthia… better to ask for cuttings in the future. as far as i know, haworthia can’t be propagated from leaf cuttings. they send out offshoots or pups like aloe and grow in a clumping pattern. the plant can be divided to propagate. i think the other leaf looks too dead to grow roots

What are you talking about stealing?

in this post and your duplicate post, before my comment influenced you to edit them, you said you “secretly” (without permission) took leaves from your friend’s plants. taking things secretly or without permission is theft. also, for future reference, duplicate posts are not allowed as it clutters the feed. i would recommend reading the community rules, accessible via the little (i) icon in the top right corner

That’s what I thought they were! The jade will prop, just set it on dirt. Don’t water it for months; wait until a baby plant has sprouted and rooted, and the mother leaf is dead. The zebra you can throw away, it won’t prop from the leaf.

Tho… the jade leaf looks dead and rotted, so may not have much luck with propagating that one. Ask your friend for one, it’s no big deal to take a piece off
