If i had a nickel for every thin rooted plant i unpotted only to find it trapped in a fabric cage, i could afford a new plant lol. So worth it though, these were the prettiest turtles I ever saw sold in person so I'm definitely gonna have to give the nursery they're grown in a visit 🥰

Those little fabric pods are commonly used in the horticulture industry. They're quite safe for the plants.

What’s the purpose of that fabric? I recently got a calathea vittata and noticed it has it too. Should I remove it?

For calatheas, i would just because they're picky. They're used to get plants established from seeds and cuttings, and they dont bother plants with thicker roots like monstera or agleonema, but for thin root plants they trap the roots as they grow and can cause problems like root rot and such
