is this direct window light (west facing) too bright for the tineke rubber plant?
I donât think so. I have a ficus elastica belize in my south windowsill and a ficus elastica burgundy in my north windowsill, and both are doing great. Theyâre often touted as low light plants, but I was recommended by a user on this app to put it in a south window, as they also do very well in brighter light, similar to peperomia, but happen to tolerate low-light conditions as well. Hope this helps! Youâve got a beautiful Tineke!
2 Likesthanks so much for all the advice, super helpful! do you mist them or just let it be?
1 LikeI donât mist them. If you want to add a humidifier in the room theyâre in, that could be helpful, but I donât mist any of my plants. That can attract pests or lead to sunburn if the leaves get too wet on hot days. I live in PA, so itâs naturally pretty humid except for in the winter, but added a humidifier in the winter or if you live in a low humidity environment is a good idea đ
2 LikesAll mine are in a west facing window and thriving! I do have some filter curtains that I close on the SUPER hot days just to minimize sunburn, but thats mostly for other plants I have in that window. No, you donât need to mist.
2 Likesgood to know, have also been putting the filtered blinds on w this heat wave since i was worried theyâd burn
2 LikesNot sure where youâre located, Iâm in SW Canada and we havenât been in a heat wave recently. But if weâre 30+ then my drapes are usually closed (if thatâs helpful). But again, my rubber trees arenât my concern when doing that. Iâm sure theyâd be fine if they were the only ones in that spot.
0 Likesitâs unlikely that your plants will truly burn in a window â especially if theyâre newer, windows filter out the UV. more sensitive leaves than these rubber trees might bleach or get crispy tips, but they likely wonât actually burn east or west facing are great spots for your tineke đđ
3 LikesI do mist and they seem to love it đ€·đœââïž. I have a burgundy and a peperomia. I donât put a lot of water but more like a spritz.
