RIP Frosty!!! I am such a newbie when it comes to air plants and there is so much conflicting info online. I won't soak ever again. Root rot :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, I've never succeeded at air plants but it looks like it's still got some green. I think that means it's still saveable

this is true for most other types of plants, but if the center or crown has rotted, then it is not saveable - this is pretty much the same with orchids. part of it may still be green, but unlike other plants you cant propogate them by cutting off the rot :)

That's too bad, I see a lot talk about soaking for like hours. I never go over 30mins, usually more like 15. I literally pop them into the watering can 😆 and when I'm done watering everything for that day, i pop them out and onto a coaster that sucks up moisture.

A local air plant store told me to only soak it the first time you get it and dunk it once a week there afterwards. So I will try that. Also, air plant fertilizer.

I dunk mine like every 2 weeks or so. They do get a light mist weekly. But like Emir mentioned the main thing is making sure they dry out the crevices of them after. Which is why I use the coasters and make sure they are in positions to get rid of the excess water. I use a 'regular' fertilizer dilution on them. Not a specific Tillandsia one. Even though they don't utilize portions of ot, I haven't found it anyway harmful

I soak all of mine, and on occasion I forget and leave them alone for way too long (like a full work day when I've forgotten). They're still alive! I put them on a towel upside down to let them drip any excess water out - especially if they're a bulby bottom air plant. Giving you some hope that if you do soak and forget that you can still make it work!

Ugh, sorry to hear! It's worked for me so far on the dozen air plants I have of different varieties big and small!

Soaking is perfectly fine, but drying them upside down for about a day is KEY. Can't let the water stay in the crown or you get rot. Hope this helps!

I mist mine heavily in the morning, and dunk them once a week. I’ve had success with them, i think they like it because it mimics their natural habitat. In the winter I put them in a clear plastic container with a lid to keep the humidity high, they hate drying out.

I actually have the same kind, tillandsia caput-medusae I think. They’re more finicky than other tillandsias in my opinion.

I moved it from an east facing window to a shelf that doesn't get much Sun and that is when I noticed it turning color.

Was your plant in bloom when you bought it? Remember once it blooms the parent plant dies.
