does anyone know how to help my prayer plant? i’ve moved her to a more bright sun spot, but she keeps getting worse. i just fertilized her so hopefully that helps but how can i fix her? i put a layer of new dirt on top and watered her about 8 days ago but her soil is still slightly wet.

Is she getting enough humidity? They love humidity. Maybe try a pebble tray?

The pot may be a little big if it doesn’t have a big root system

i give all of my plants a spritz of water each morning cause i’m trying to save up for a humidifier. i’ll look into a pebble tray to see if i can incorporate that

Light looks good. Some of the leaf yellowing makes me think it could be overwatering. Does the pot have drainage? Eight days is a long time for the potting, medium to stay wet. What kind of potting medium are you using? Prayer plants do well in chunky, well draining mixes. What type of water do you use? They can be sensitive to the minerals in tap water. Recommend switching to rain, distilled or tap water treated with aquarium conditioner.

quick tip: aquarium conditioner only neutalizes the chemicals used to treat the tap, the minerals would need to be filtered out :)

Good note. I have transitioned from 100% distilled water to 100% treated tap water over the past two months or so. I haven’t noticed any issues with my plants. I do have to PH balance the tap water, though. The water is very hard where I live. It’s around 8.0+ PH right out the tap

yeah. i think her drainage isn’t very good, nor does she have a drainage hole however she does have a big layer of gravel on the bottom. it has just normal potting soil. i’ll take her to a plant shop and see if they can help me. her former owner didn’t take the best care, pretty much the bare minimum. the first day i had her i did accidentally use tap, but then i used filtered water the second time.

layering gravel at the bottom of the pot only provides a false sense of drainage and could be part of the reason your maranta is suffering. look into perched water tables in potted plants for more information. filtering tap water is a great first step for sensitive plants like maranta, but most pitcher filters will leave some chlorine in the water, which prayer plants can’t handle. the leaves will turn crispy. i’d recommend, as yindeezy mentioned, using an aquarium water conditioner in your filtered tap water to break down the remaining chlorines.

Mine does not like the sun burning her leaves. And she has been very happy since I hung her up. You really don’t need to spray them either and it can cause fungus and spots on the leaves. Also they have short roots and do better in a clay succulent pot. Hope this helps you a bit and be patient 😊
