Hi everyone 👋🏻 fairly new here, but just wanted some advice on my peace lily as I’m at a dead end. My plants used to have fungus gnats really badly, and I thought I found a way to eradicate them, however, it appears every time I water my lily the gnats hatch and I get the little white larvae. There’s no live flies anywhere. I feel like I’ve tried everything, even the layer of sand at the top of the soil (and get this, the gnats lay their eggs at the BOTTOM of the soil instead). Does anyone know why and how they keep coming back, and how to rid of them all together 😭

    Have you tried mosquito bits?

Or systemic granules as a more long term prevention strategy?

No, what is that? I’ve tried the no-gnats soil which you put on top but they found a way around that by laying eggs at the bottom 🙃

You can put mosquito bits in the soil.

Yes someone else just mentioned that, I’ll have to look it up as I’ve never heard of this! Thank you 😊

I heard this is caused bc your plant isn’t properly draining when you water it 😭 I could be wrong but idk if that helps!

you’re absolutely right, most people have fungus gnats because their plants are potted in all-purpose mix without additional drainage. soggy soil is a haven for fungus gnats

How do I fix this? My pots have drainage holes and I hardly ever really water it unless it really needs it, and even then I put a tiny bit at the top and not near the bottom. I use the all purpose mix as it’s the only one in garden centres near me, is there a better one I can use? Thank you 🥹

I’m trying diluted hydrogen peroxide. It seems to be working.
