Treat like a snake plant or succulent, only water when soil is dry!
4 J'aimeAwesome ty ty !
1 j'aimeWelcome! 😊
1 j'aimeExactly ^ like bone bone dry, allll the way down to the drainage hole dry, otherwise these plants will go downhill fast being overwatered with their tuberous root systems
2 J'aimeOkk thanks for the details ! 😆
1 j'aimeHaha np 😂
1 j'aimeYes! They’d rather starve than be over watered. They’re native to very hot, very dry African climates
2 J'aimeOuu didn’t know that, I’m a helicopter plant mom so I tend to do too much at times 🤣 I’ll just let her be til she’s dry 😅
1 j'aimefollow up question though — did this cutting have a rhizome developed? Or was it just little roots?
1 j'aimeHonestly don’t know 😅 my sister in law had gifted to me I think they’re just roots but I’d have to confirm. Is this a low light plant or ?
0 J'aimeIt’s sold as low light tolerant but that’s bad PR lol — if you want it to grow get it as much light as you have available. (Mine sits in a west-facing bay window)
2 J'aimeOki doki thanks a bunch ! Its in my room it gets decent bright indirect light so 😅
1 j'aimeAs for the sticks, I use sandwich bag twist ties and baby hair clips (like the ones you see clipped on orchid plants at the grocery store). The twist ties are great in the sense that they’re easy to find and adjust without constricting the stems of the plant. You can also use a bamboo skewer like the sticks you have and stick them to the bottom of the soil to check that the soil has completely dried out before watering it. Hope this helps!
1 j'aimeThanks ! I tried baby clips but the stem and stick are both too small to hold it 😅 I figured light yarn was my best bet as to not disturb her haha.
1 j'aimeNo problem! How long has it been in soil? Does it have developed roots? If the roots are new and you’re working on developing them, you can add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to the water the next time you water it. You don’t need to add drops of peroxide to the water more than once or twice.
1 j'aimeOk thanks ! I did just repot it as the pot had no drainage, it does in fact have rhizomes 😇
