Came back from a 2 week vacation to half of my plant collection infected with spider mites :( i already threw away about 5 different plants that were either really infected or i didn’t care to save. i checked my entire collection again today and found more webbing on more plants that weren’t there yesterday. i’ve rinsed them all under water & sprayed them with insecticide soap, and plan to spray them all again in a few days. i also have them all quarantined and spaced apart from each other with fans + humidifiers going. this is my first time ever dealing with spider mites & would appreciate any tips to prevent them & completely get rid my current infestation. also, looking for tips on how to treat my giant monstera effectively. i already sprayed her down in the tub + insecticide soap on her update 1: i have split my plants into 2 groups, group 1 was treated 12/21 and group 2 was treated 12/23. I treated group 1 again (12/24), most had no webbing only my 2 Pink Princesses had webbing still and it was only 1-3 strands.

Spray with 70% rubbing alcohol also. Every couple of days. It kills instantly. Then weekly/every other week

This is the way^^^ive done it countless and countless times and it works instantly and I’ve never had a plant show any signs of illness from doing so. I use 91% alcohol but I do dilute it with water at roughly 1 part water to 2 parts 91% alcohol. 100% success rate.

I would be devastated. Luckily I’ve only dealt with them one time on two plants. I just took them in the shower and sprayed them down every couple days for about 10. They are not difficult to get rid of. It’s just dealing with them on so many. Please post back with an update in 2 weeks.

Washing them down and spray using insecticidal soap is preferable over spraying rubbing alcohol onto the plants. Many plants will die from soaking rubbing alcohol onto the plants and soil. 🪴🍀

Have yet to have an issue and do it weekly. Have had no pests either. I follow a plant shop owner who recommends this. @therootedplantshop

Can attest to this… killed a mini Sinningia & some Peperomia this way. 😭

I use this from Paige Tailyn - she is hip on plants - this worked for me. Do be careful with straight alcohol as some plants can not handle it. Although it can help. After any spray down keep the light off of them. - good luck - it sucks. Keep at it they will be taken away.

I busted used a Q tip with 71% rubbing alcohol and wiped where the webs were down and let it dry

they’re microscopic arachnids type pests that make webbing on your plants & feed on them. if let untreated they spread & kill ur plants :(

For long term treatment & prevention, and/or a large scale infestation, I recommend predatory mites. I introduced some in early November for a persistent spider mite problem and (fingers crossed) have had zero spider mites since. !! Then in early December I got thrips (😭), so got another round of predatory mites, and thrips are all gone! Plants that had a bad thrips outbreak I sprayed down with Castile soap solution periodically.
