Hi! I picked this autograph tree up in Lowe’s a week ago. Today, I took out the sponge and found what I think to be root rot. How much of this needs to be cut and how do I treat this?

I’m not good with determining root rot but wanted to comment that it’s beautiful and I hope it thrives!

1 likeIf the roots are firm and not mushy I would just plant it in a well draining soil and water with root stimulator. I don't know what you've read about autographed plant but they like full sun when planted outdoors and although I don't usually recommend full sun indoors I would give it all the lights you can including direct sun. They also run on the dry side. If there are any mushy parts cut them off. If it's all mushy I would return it to the store.

0 likesThe stem looks rotted. Cut until you see a clean cross section and no more mushy or weak roots exist. Use sterilized scissors and clean and treat remaining plant In a water and hydrogen peroxide solution. It’s very possible that you’re going to have to chop this plant at the stem to save it and try to reroot it in water. I do not recommend buying plants from Home Depot or Lowe’s. Or honestly any big box store because they do not take care of their plants. I have gotten a few and they are always project plants.
