Ok guys, this is my lil lemon tree I’ve been growing for almost a year now ! Is it ok to leave out all night ? I’ve left it out 2 nights but I don’t want to continue to damage it if it’s not ok to be outside, also no clue when to plant in ground haha any tips would be useful !

It really depends on where you live and what temperature it is at night. I take my lemon tree inside every winter because it generally freezes a few times a year where I live. I put it out again once the lowest temperature is 40-50, but preferably on the higher end. I know plenty of people leave lemon trees outside even down to the mid 30s, but I usually don’t take that risk since it’s easy to bring inside once in a while.

I’m in northern Cali ! Totally forgot to add that lol. Our nights are about 40s 50s now so that actually is why I took the chance and brought her out the last 2 nights 😅

What zone are you in? If it is a Meyer Lemon my rule of thumb is outside during the day inside at night until overnight temps are at least 45°. As a previous poster mentioned they indicate they are hardy down to about 30° but I have never had luck with them that cold. I had one when I lived in Dallas and it just died a rather slow pathetic death when I left it on the porch with temps under 40° but above freezing. I’m in 7B and my Meyer already has blooms and some fruit set but it will be another couple of weeks before I let it or my lime trees overnight outside. If the plant is established and you plant it in the ground overwintering outside may be possible (zone dependent) but if it is potted I’d err on the side of caution.

I’m in zone 9b ! I honestly do not know what kind of lemon tree it is, I just took a chance on the seeds my mom gave me from a lemon she cut up because she thinks I can grow anything 🤣 oof yeah this is my babyyyy haha and until today I didn’t realize I had been growing her for pretty much the majority of the year I had a smaller one but it just stopped growing after a while. This one also has a little friend coming up haha. I can’t wait to get fruit off it !

As long as you aren’t getting any cold snaps or frost in your area you should be just fine! I’m guessing it may be at least one more year before you see fruit since it is pretty young. You might consider a little larger pot to let its roots really spread and take hold. Since you are already in a dryer climate you might also think about a plastic pot. Terra cotta pots are wonderful but dry out much faster. Just be sure to adjust your watering schedule if you do move to plastic as too much water there can lead to root rot. Keep us posted!

Yeah I wasn’t expecting fruits this year only because she looks real tiny to me hahaha. Ooo ok, I’ll look for a larger pot, the terracotta was just one of my outside pots and I didn’t know if it would sprout. Just kinda winging it lol
