Hi there! I need some advice for my Dieffenbachia Seguine (Dumb Cane). She was doing well recently, but now she seems to be getting worse. When I first bought her, she was in poor shape, but she started thriving after I dried out her soil and gave her some sun. The soil isn’t overly wet, and although I had her too close to the sun for a few days (which she seemed to enjoy for a while?), I’ve since relocated her. This is my first time taking care of this plant, and I’m not sure what the issue is. Any advice would be appreciated!

They’re temperamental. They like what they like and will drop leaves if they don’t continue to get it. They love bright indirect light but if it was thriving where you had it originally, I’d move it back and adjust so the leaves won’t burn. After some major rehab for mine, it was happy. Once it was healthy, I’d move it to my kitchen and back to water it. I did that a couple times before it started losing leaves again. Now I don’t move it’s location at all. I bottom water where it’s at and rotate when I remember to. I also purchased a grow light because my current place doesn’t get too much light. Since I’ve done it that way, my dieffenbachia is happy again. It’s responded well for the most part lol. I hope this helps!

Mine was the same...a rescue baby. But I noticed over the last week or so that I couldn't keep her happy no matter what I did. So when I took her into the bathroom, I noticed the black specs of death. So hurriedly washed all her leaves, rechecked for more pests, and treated her with safe grow (I think). She's still outside until I can find a suitable QT area inside. Hopefully yours isn't looking sad for the same reason. 🧡

Thanks for the advice. I’m having the same problem with mine. I will try moving it to another location. I already lost one, I don’t want to lose this one.

I just checked the roots and there was a bit of root rot… some roots detached from the mother plant. Is there anything that can be done with those roots or will those die?
