Hello! I have some baby spider plants I’m propagating! Just wondering how long they need before I can plant them in soil, they’ve been in the water for 10 days so far and they look to be doing well! Can I plant them yet? Also when it comes to planting, I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for the size of the nursery pot needed? I have some 3.8Wx3H inch pots I was planning to use, but I’m wondering how lengthy the roots grow and if they may need more space? Thanks in advance!

I would wait until several roots are longer than 2 inches. I wait until the roots are many and at least 1 inch before I cut the plant from the mother plant. More roots and longer roots increase the chance of survival.

I think it can live in water for a long while. I believe I had my first spider plant pups in water for weeks until their roots got really big. The first pot I planted it in was about the same size as the plant, if not a smidge smaller. They don’t mind being rootbound and it’s easy to untangle their uniquely thick roots once you decide to transplant

Just wait for it to split and be 2 in

I'd say leave them in water for a couple months. I got a couple spider plants on January 27th that stayed in water until April 29th. Tbh, they're growing SO much better than the spiders I only left in water for a few weeks (those had a few roots that were at least 2" long with offshoots when potted). Regardless of when you decide to pot them up, you should put them in a pot that's about 1" bigger than the plant's root ball. The top pics are within a week of getting them and the bottom pic is from last week (6" pot)
