You save a lot more money and actually better poles if you just get this and of course bulk is better besides #4 1. plastic coated wire mesh (it’s preferred because the water can rust it if it’s not coated) 2. zip ties 3. pvc sheets 4. hole puncher

Especially when the leaves grow larger I was inspired from the plant shop I go to they had a 4 foot one 😍

This is a great tutorial! What kind of filling are you using? All sphagnum moss? Also how often do you find yourself watering the pole and how do you go about it? I have several plants that could be on moss poles but I’ve stuck with trellises so far since they tend to be rather low maintenance.

To be honest I’m still observing and thinking of ways to make it better. this has only been my 5th one and the 3, D shape ones. I literally learned from a tutorial on YouTube and started 2 months ago as for watering the sphagnum moss I been doing it once every 2-3 weeks on 80degree weather and I just spray the plastic heavy

Literally just did this with a pole I made this week. Too early to tell if it actually helps or not haha

Pretty good idea. I’ve been experimenting with a couple variations from rectangular moss “walls” backed with plexiglass to standard shaped moss poles with shelf liner for insulating the back. Going to repot my albo soon with a “D” shaped moss pole like your setup. We’ll see how it goes. In terms of stability, I’m betting the D shape is the best. I’ll try yours next after im out of current materials. My only piece of feedback would be on using zip ties for the plant anchors. I’m sure you have them loose enough so they aren’t restricting growth, but something like plant ties, plant Velcro or orchid clips would give you more flexibility in case you need to adjust down the road. Great stuff though. Interested in seeing progress pics in a couple months. 👍🏽

Overall, it’s an easy to make and economical design! Thanks for sharing! My only concern is with the zip ties used on the plants that don’t allow for the stems to grow. Zip ties are good to firmly hold the structure together. They will be too restrictive on the plants without an easy adjustment method. Ties designed specifically for plants would be better.

That’s why I purposely didn’t tighten them all the way there’s plenty of room for growth and will cut them as soon as roots attach

I have the straps but don’t really like to use them but will if this doesn’t do the job
