I started working at a local greenhouse for the busy season and I’m loving it! My question is, has anyone ever grown garden vegetables exclusively in pots? (Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, etc.) What’s the growth process? If I get a small plant do I put it in a large pot right away or wait for it to grow? Do tomatoes need supports right away? Please help 😊

I am currently growing 10 types of tomatoes in pots and other veggies. You can put them in big pots straight away just be careful with temps and they don’t need supports right away. They grow just fine for me and fast. Hope this helps good luck!

Thank you for the advice! How big of a pot do you think a tomato plant would need?

I'm growing propagated green onions over and over in a 10 inch and I just harvested Baby Bok Choy's from 10 and 12 inch ones. I would highly suggest for cherry tomatoes at least, you do something larger than 12 inch. Maybe 16 or 18. A 24 inch one if possible. I had 5 or 6 plants last year that all didn't do the best, partially because they had caterpillars, but they also didn't grow many leaves, and when I gave up and unpotted them, I realized it was because 12in is not big enough for their roots. They'll start doing what lever it's called where the roots go in circles at the bottom. And eventually start growing through the drainage holes. Meanwhile, they still didn't have that many leaves compared to other plants I saw. I did also do an Okra plant last year and that didn't harvest many but I would say it's definitely container friendly when bigger than 12in.
