I just bought a polka dot plant cutting two days ago (hypoestes phyllostachya) and I didn’t know it needed humidity to really thrive but am unsure as to how I create humidity for it? Does anyone have any tips? Does it actually need humidity?

To add humidity you can place it in your bathroom. Or just set the pot inside a dish with pebbles and some water.

These have always grown fine in my regular household humidity, tbh!
4 Mi piaceMine loves the southern NC humidity. Wasn’t doing well inside and so I put it out in my screen porch during the warmer months and it did so well, even flowered.
5 Mi piaceoof mine needed a lot of humidity uhh to create it bathroom plants around it (transpiration- when plants excrete O2 through stomata other plants absorb it☺️) orrrr humidifier and the dish thingy i dont have enough stones for that💀 but ive heard it works great!! like i have monstera pothos alocasia philo and syngonium alllll together and voila!
2 Mi piaceDon’t listen to these people. The pebble tray will not work. If you want to increase the humidity - get yourself a humidifier or cover it with some glass to make a little greenhouse. But with the second method, you need to give the plant some fresh air every now and then
1 mi piaceWhat is the humidity this particular plant needs?
0 Mi piaceLikes 65-75%, but 50% is also ok. But mostly it needs a good light and occasional trimming
1 mi piaceI heard/read somewhere that grouping it with other plants will create a natural humidity zone. I’m not sure how accurate that is, but my polka dot is surrounded by other plants and seems to be doing well
0 Mi piaceI have a pink nerve plant someone told me to mist it for extra humidity- so far seems to be working. Also a Dark Mystery plant I am misting AND keep in a tray with water & pebbles. Jury is out on that one, it was drying out quite a bit and seems to have stopped but isn’t quite thriving yet.
1 mi piaceAnother way of keeping in moisture is to put a clear plastic bag loosely over it, like a produce bag or Ziploc bag
