Got a couple new plants for my birthday! Does anyone have any tips on any of these plants Christmas cactus, pitcher plant and polka dot plant
My Christmas cactus LOVES getting as much light as it can (from my south facing window near a giant tree) and has been growing really quickly and a lot this year

좋아요 1개Do not put tap water in your pitcher plant. It’s very sensitive to minerals and will kill it. Pitcher Plant • Sunlight: Bright, indirect light. • Water: Distilled or rainwater only; avoid tap water due to mineral sensitivity. • Fertilizer: None; obtains nutrients from trapped insects. • Soil recipe: Carnivorous plant mix. Recipe: 50% sphagnum moss, 50% perlite.
좋아요 1개It had root rot unfortunately I cut off the roots and put it in peat moss and perlite idk from here what to do
0개 좋아요It sounds like you took the right steps to help your pitcher plant recover from root rot. Using a well-draining mix like peat moss and perlite is excellent, because pitcher plants prefer a moisture-retentive but airy medium that doesn’t stay overly saturated. To help it thrive: 1. Water Quality (MOST IMPORTANT PART): Make sure you’re using distilled or rainwater, because pitcher plants are sensitive to minerals and chemicals in tap water. Tap water WILL kill it! 2. Light and Humidity: Provide bright, indirect sunlight and maintain high humidity, which helps pitcher plants flourish. Outdoors is best or else you’ll have to feed it live flies or crickets. 3. Avoid Any Kind of Fertilizer: Fertilizers will harm pitcher plants, so it’s best to avoid adding any. 4. Monitor Moisture: The soil should stay damp but not waterlogged. The new mix will help, but regular checking is wise, especially since root rot is a sign of excess moisture. With this care, your plant should have a good chance of recovering!

Christmas cactus’ like a lot of water! I water mine once a week but it’s also about 10x bigger than yours lol
좋아요 1개Pinch out the polka dot plant or it WILL get leggy (I prefer to plant a few together to ‘bulk’ it out) and they drop a lot of leaves! When the Christmas cactus is dormant, or not producing flowers, put it in a darker spot for a few weeks and it should flower again. And happy birthday to you 🥳x
