Has anyone tried the PlantAI app for iPhone? I think it's a great addition to Planta.

I have not. What do you like about it? Is it better at identifying plants?

I've used it to ID plants and to diagnose problems and sorry to the Planta folks but I've already found it more accurate.

Thanks for replying. The Planta app is a good community group and I enjoy seeing and reading the members questions, answers and ideas. PlantAI sounds like a good source to add to the plant care “library” so thank you!

Seen that too, even though got high stars, sounds like it identifies loads of things wrong

Artificial intelligence is already too prevalent and too unreliable in my opinion. I'd rather just use Planta and Reddit and get information from real people who've had similar experiences to what I'm going through. At least then I know the information worked for someone and wasn't just words smashed together based on random internet text. The environmental impact of the data centers is also scary and not something I want to contribute to so I avoid AI as much as possible.

I'm not a fan of AI. Kinda scares me. But honestly was really impressed with this.

    Is it free or paid?

Either. They offer a premium version. I'm just using the free one.

I use inaturalist and the companion seek app. Their computer vision model is trained on wild sightings, and if it fails to ID you can always post it on inat to get the community to help. They do focus more on wild plants, but they'll still ID casual entries. And the ai on that is at least being used for research and conservation (i'm pretty sure most of the data center problems are hosting 99% spam and scams from like ai generated coloring books and "emotional-support" psychosis inducing chatbots. 🫤)
