I was gifted an aloe Vera plant. It looks so “heavy” and sick. I haven’t watered it much because it looked almost over watered. I fertilized it. Right now it’s on my covered porch and it’s been hot out. I plan to separate it. I have not have a aloe plant like this before, any advice

Mine prefer terra cotta. I would take all of these out and keep the ones that are in good perky shape. The others I toss. They don’t really perk up once they are droopy in my experience. I just get rid of them if this occurs. So I would take the best 3 -4 and put in a smaller terra cotta.

I second Oleander mom. I THINK what you have there is a climbing aloe, or eyelash aloe. This type of aloe is not as straight and upright as most aloe Vera; it grows in a kind of fringe. I rescued one recently, repotted to terra cotta, pulled off the limp and dead material. Here is what mine is doing now, it has tons of new growth!

They tend to get floppy like that when they haven't been receiving enough light, so yours being outside it's new growth should perk up. I like to keep mine in terracotta as well and I pinch the leaves to see when it is thirsty. Plump stiff leaves means it's okay and I water when they start to have a little give. If yours wasn't receiving enough light before you got it, then it might get a little sun burned. If that starts to happen, just pull it back from the sun and in the shade for a week or two the gradually introduce it to more sunlight. When they are fully acclimated they can handle full sun. Mine stay outside year round and I cover with a frost cloth when it gets in the 30's (I live in the south). If you live somewhere colder then you may want to overwinter in your garage or greenhouse.
