My boyfriend just bought me my first indoor plant baby. Do anyone know what type of orchid she is? And any advice on how to keep her healthy and thriving? Her name is yellow

I haven’t found an orchid I liked yet, but I’ve heard that they don’t like to be in the chips and the moss? And to put them in water? But I could be crazy!

좋아요 1개pls don’t put orchids in water 😭 they’re epiphytes. Moss, orchid bark, perlite, coco chunks. They like high humidity around their roots but they’ll easily rot off if they’re too wet. In the wild, they’re used to frequent rainwater while growing on trees. So potting mix should be something that holds humidity but very chunky and airy so it doesn’t stay wet too long.

0개 좋아요I believe you have a moth orchid, a very pretty one! I have a moth orchid and I found the following helpful: • placing her in an east window • repotting her into a slotted orchid pot using an orchid bark/orchid bark mix. You can find the mixes and slotted pots at Home Depot or Lowe’s. I would hold off repotting until she’s done flowering though. • the roots will be a bright green when hydrated and a silver/silver green when dry. Water only when the roots are a silver/silver green; and don’t use ice cubes as it can shock the roots.
